ASP ACUPUNCTURE

ASP stands for auricular (ear) semi-permanent. ASP needles are shaped like tiny darts that are inserted into ear acupuncture points.

Auricular (ear) semi-permanent acupuncture is a type of acupuncture that involves the insertion of needles that are shaped like tiny darts into specific points on the ear to stimulate healing and balance in the body. Unlike traditional acupuncture that uses fine needles inserted into points over the entire body, auricular acupuncture focuses exclusively on the ear.

Auricular semi-permanent acupuncture involves the placement of small, sterile needles in the ear that are left in place for several days or weeks. The needles used are typically made of gold, silver, titanium, and are very small. The use of different metals helps provide variety to clients with allergies to specific metals.

The exact points used in auricular acupuncture will depend on the individual's condition and specific symptoms. Some common points used in auricular acupuncture include the Shen Men point, which is believed to promote relaxation and reduce stress, and the point for pain, which can help to alleviate chronic pain.

Auricular semi-permanent acupuncture has been used to treat a wide range of conditions, including addiction, chronic pain, anxiety, and depression.

The term "semi-permanent" refers to the fact that the needles used in auricular acupuncture are left in place for several days or weeks, rather than being removed after a single session like traditional acupuncture. This allows for a longer period of stimulation and may result in more lasting effects.

Battlefield acupuncture (BFA) works by taking the body out of fight or flight (sympathetic) and putting you into a restful/calm state (parasympathetic). This service only takes 2-3 minutes and then you can go about your day.

How are ASP needles removed?
ASP needles are easy to remove and can be taken out by the patient 3-7 days after insertion. They are easiest to remove after a shower. Post-shower, gently pull the needles out. Some needles might have already fallen out on their own and go unnoticed (they are tiny!)

Here are some potential benefits of auricular semi-permanent acupuncture needles:

  • Pain Relief: Auricular acupuncture has been shown to be effective in reducing pain, particularly for conditions such as musculoskeletal pain, headaches, and dental pain. The needles can help stimulate the release of endorphins, natural pain-relieving substances in the body, and may also help reduce inflammation and muscle tension.

  • Stress Reduction: Auricular acupuncture is known for its calming and relaxing effects. The needles can stimulate the release of neurotransmitters and hormones that can help reduce stress and anxiety and promote a sense of relaxation and well-being.

  • Addiction and Cravings Management: Auricular acupuncture has been used as a complementary therapy for smoking cessation and substance abuse. The needles can help reduce addiction cravings, withdrawal symptoms, and anxiety and support recovery efforts.

  • Support for Mental Health: Auricular acupuncture may be used to support mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia. The needles can help regulate the nervous system, promote relaxation, and improve sleep quality, benefitting overall mental well-being.

  • Enhanced General Health: Auricular acupuncture stimulates the body's self-healing mechanisms and may help improve overall health and well-being. It may boost the immune system, support digestion, and balance energy flow in the body, improving overall health.

  • Non-invasiveness: Auricular semi-permanent acupuncture needles are tiny dart-like needles, making them a relatively safe and well-tolerated form of acupuncture. The needles are left in the ear for a period of time, and patients can go about their daily activities during the treatment.
